The Film: Jaha’s Promise
A documentary about the life and activism of Jaha Dukureh, a Gambian anti-female genital mutilation campaigner who returns to her country of birth to confront the harmful tradition that she and 200 million women and girls have undergone globally.
Jaha’s Promise captures her story and her spirit and the movement for change in Africa that she is part of.
Your Host: Seed Programs International
SPI is an Asheville-based non-profit organization that provides seeds and support for gardening programs worldwide. Garden purposes vary from hunger relief, to crisis response, to school enhancement. Many SPI garden partnerships also focus on women, for whom the garden can provide economic power to overcome challenges addressed in the film such as FGM and child marriage, while also providing a safe space for locally-led change of harmful practices.
SPI’s Program Director, Naima Dido, appears in Jaha’s Promise and will participate in a Q&A session after the film, by video call from Senegal, along with Debra Kiliru-Liontree and Jill Fromewick.
Your $5 admission ticket will be collected at the door and benefits the worldwide work of SPI in support of women’s gardening programs.
