Porch Magazine – 531: Bright Lights
December 11 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST
Hi friends – We tell stories to make sense of ourselves and the world around us, stories which can imprison us or set us free. This is a time to nurture stories that will expand our minds, our circles of belonging, our notions of who is “in” and who is “out”, and maybe even what we think we’re here for in the first place. Since January we’ve been hosting 5-3-1 in Asheville, a community gathering to hear five stories, three songs, and take one imaginative action for the common good. The next one is coming up the week after next, on December 11th, 6.30-8.30pm, in downtown Asheville.
It’s fun, it’s informal, we laugh, we cry, we are inspired to live better. What happens is really simple: five people tell a story, one musician plays three songs, and we invite each other into a simple step to make a better world together.
We do it at the wonderful Block off Biltmore – a pub/cafe/club whose welcome is warm, and where the drinks and snacks are creative and tasty!
For the last 5-3-1 of the year – and it’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this for a whole year! – our theme is BRIGHT LIGHTS, and this month we’re delighted to have an all-women lineup of storytellers. We’d love to see you there – click here for more information, please join us, and invite your friends!
In the community of a better story, we invite you to shine some bright lights, and come see us on the 11th.
