Rent Party w/ Teso’s Band
July 31 @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm EST
Hope this finds you staying cool! It’s nearly the end of the month and we are having our third “Keeping the Doors Open for Everyone” Rent Party! For a donation of $10 (or more), you’ll be served food by Vianda Catering and enjoy music by our busking friend, Teso. The party starts from 6pm and is a fun way to mingle with old and new friends while supporting THE BLOCK off biltmore.
Why a rent party?:
Currently, as most of you know, the sidewalk on Eagle Street is closed and there is no covered walkway. Additionally, there is limited lighting and no real signage on Biltmore Avenue to encourage visitors/residents to explore The Block. Needless to say, this is hurting businesses in the YMI building.
Since the last rent party, YMI tenants – for the first time – met with city officials and reps from the construction projects on either side of us. This group has agreed to meet monthly for the foreseeable future – progress!
As a result of the meeting, we are encouraged that we will have more lights on Eagle and Market Sts, some signage on Biltmore Avenue, and perhaps, even, a few additional parking places (fingers crossed). The project managers reported that the MHO mixed-use property will start opening in phases beginning in January 2018 and The Foundry Inn plans to open in May 2018. Things are moving, thankfully – albeit slowly…
With your help and others in the community who want to help us “Keep the Doors Open for Everyone!”:
Together, I have faith that we can make it through the next 6 months. The long-range dream, of course, is to do much more for local organizations and individuals working to make Asheville and WNC a more compassionate, progressive, inclusive place for all of us! Check out our web calendar and see how, in the past month, we have worked to support a variety of local, small nonprofits – Community Roots, Girls on the Run, Asheville Poverty Initiative, Hope for Horses, 350.org and small businesses/startups like – Micah MacKenzie’s Photo Camp, Rising Moon Wellness, Carolina Hemp Co., Vianda Catering, Fat Rabbit Catering and Cynthia Sims’ Buti Yoga.
And remember, every month our rent check supports the YMI Cultural Center. Please know how grateful I am to each of you for your sustained support and your interest in keeping Asheville’s First Vegan, Social Justice, Solidarity Bar alive!
Y’all are awesome – from the bottom of my heart, I thank you!
P.S. If you have a nonprofit you’d like us to collaborate with, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our mission is to be of service in the community by raising funds and awareness pertaining to issues facing animals, the planet and our neighbors.
